Here we are with another chance to share wonderful books with each other thanks to Jen and Kellee over at Teach Mentor Texts and Sheila over at Book Journey who both sponsor this great meme each week for young adult/children and adult respectively!
Here’s what I’ve been reading:
Yes, I read A LOT while I was in Washington DC for 9 days!
I enjoyed ALL of the above, with the exception of the adult novel-Off Season by Anne Rivers. It just wasn’t for me-it was depressing. You might love it!
I loved, loved, loved The One and Only Ivan!
And The Boy in the Striped Pajamas left me stunned!
I haven’t picked out my next reading friend yet (I like the way that sounds!) since I just finished up a book about an hour ago.
But I’ll grab something on the way from my little office to my bedroom!
What have you been reading?
Interesting selection of books.
My favorite read last week was Sweet Revenge (audio) by Diane Mott Davidson. Please come see what else I’m reading.
Some beautiful realistic fiction books you’ve read recently… Like “reading friend”. I call them book treasures. 🙂
I’m making my through “Guided Math” by Laney Sammons. Huge focus on small groups and Math Workshop. I love the philosophy, I’m just trying to figure out how I would, no WILL do it in real life!
PS: Great blog!

Krystal,
I don’t teach math, and won’t be teaching reading next year either-just US history so no structured groups for me. However, I think small group AND one on one instruction is where it’s at! Good luck! 🙂
I havent read it yet but I can not wait to read Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. I am tyring (so hard) to save it for our trip to the beach!!
Libby-
Gone Girl sounds like a good one-just added it to my EVERGROWING tbr list! 🙂
I haven’t read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas but I’ve read a lot of discussions about it recently so I may need to read it. Did you watch the movie?
Katya,
I haven’t seen the movie but want to. I always try to,watch the movie after reading the book if I can. 🙂
I’m in an online group that is attempting to read all of the 1001 Children’s Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up. We read Stryped Pajamas recently. I agree. What a story!
Here’s my
It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? Hope you will stop by!
Deb-
It is definitely a MUST READ!
I loved, loved, loved, loved Ivan. I used to live in WA a long time ago and would visit him and think he looked so sad. Glad his story had a happy ending!
Since my #leagueoflibrarians shirt came this week I figured it was LONG past due that I read a Lunch Lady (they were always checked out! Since the day he visited our school!) so that is on deck for this week.
Off Season is the “Dairy Queen” book I still need to read. I broke protocol and finished 1 and 3 before 2. Oops.
Angie-
LOL! Did you get mad when you read #3 before the 2nd??? 🙂
Looks like you had a great reading trip!!
I still haven’t read Ivan…I need to get on that before summer is over!
Jennifer-
Ivan is a quick read if that helps you any! 🙂
Just finished Divergent (kinda like Hunger Games triology)…got me hooked.
Darlene,
Divergent is on my TBR list!
wasn’t Off Season, the end of the Dairy Queen series? (trilogy?) Never mind…just saw you had TWO books by that title! 🙂 Lunch Lady — love! I’ve already worn my t-shirt.
Gotta be a cute t-shirt!! 🙂
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas is good…Heartbreaking but good. Glad you liked it!

Jennifer,
I just hope that when I pass on to a better world that Imcan take some books with me. 🙂
Ivan is so great. I love Crooked Kind of Perfect, too. I love WWII historical fiction and Boy In Striped Pajamas left me speechless, too. It made me think so much. Very thought-provoking.
Jen,
It almost made me hate, which is what we should have learned not to do after that terrible time in history!! But if I were to hate someone, Hitler would be there at the top!!
After reading the comments here, I’ll have to check out The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas!
Earl,
I don’t thin you will be disappointed!!
