Here we are with another chance to share wonderful books with each other thanks to Jen and Kellee over at Teach Mentor Texts and Sheila over at Book Journey who both sponsor this great meme each week for young adult/children and adult respectively!
Talk about crunching in A LOT of reading in just a few days! Just call me the Queen of that for this week!
I even delayed my trip to B’ham Friday night so I could finish a book! Am I crazy???? 🙂
This was another week of my “addiction to books about the Holocaust”. I also read about The Underground Railroad and The Soviet Union as well as a Little House book. (This one was for Banned Books Week!)
It was a great week of learning more about history-it’s amazing the amount of information that can be learned through reading books like these instead of plowing through DRY FACTUAL TEXTBOOKS. 🙂 It’s hard to say which one was my favorite, but if I had to narrow it down to 2 they would have to be The Boy Who Dared and Hitler Youth. (Both by the same author)
My trip to BAM on Saturday when I was coming home from B’ham really paid off. Over $70 worth of books!!! YOWZA!
Can’t decide what to read next-probably because I have so many choices at my house!
Any great books on your list this week?
You did have a good reading week!
Sheila,
I sure did-all in the last part of the week!!
What a fab week of reading! Learning is the best part of reading if you ask this girl 🙂
I hope you have another great week!
The Relentless Reader
J-
Well, I sure have learned a lot lately!
Wow. I’m not sure I could stomache that many Holocaust books in a row. I had to have several weeks of light books after reading The Book Thief.
Katya-
You know-I think it just got to me. I just finished Between Shades of Gray (Lithuanian family was deported by Soviets) and cried my eyes out. I’m thinking the Nancy Drew book beside me is looking sort of good right now…. 🙂
Wow!!! So many historical books – that’s incredible. I love a great historical fiction. 🙂
And it’s too funny that you post-poned your trip! Sounds like something I’d do…do we have a problem or what?! 😉
If you’d like to stop by, here’s what I’m reading this week.
xo,
JL
Jenna,
Sometimes I have to remind myself that I still have a life to live so I don’t get caught up in the lives of all of my book characters! Sure makes it nice right now that my husband is on night shift. 🙂
I’m really interested in books about the WWII period too. I will have to look into some of the ones you read this week.
Lindsey–
Have you read any good ones about WWII? I’ve never even seen the movie Schindler’s List, but just looked up the information on the guy behind it and read some good stuff. Might have to buy that book and read it and then see the movie!
Schindler’s List is a really great book. Somehow I find it easier to read about the atrocities than watch the movies….
There is a ton of good historical fiction too. Two of my favorites from this year were Code Name Verity and The House at Tynneford.
Thanks for both of those recommendations-added them to my evergrowing TBR list! 🙂
