CrissCross Review by Lynne Rae Perkins

I do not like to give bad reviews of books. But here it goes. I was so disappointed in this book. I began reading it thinking it was going to steal my heart. It did not. I felt like nothing really happened. I also had a hard time keeping up since it switched back and forth between characters. The one positive was that the author used beautiful and expressive language which I tend to like. However, I wouldn’t recommend it to my 6th graders or really anyone. I’m sorry. 🙂

Goodreads Summary:

This winner of the 2006 Newbery Medal is a poignant coming-of-age story about a young girl and her friends whose paths cross–and stories criss cross–over one summer. Illustrated throughout with photos and illustrations by the author.
