Reading YA & My First Run

Have you ever done a Goodreads reading challenge? My goal for the last several years was 200 books in a year, but I decreased it for this year to just 100. So right now I’m 2/100. πŸ™‚

Here are the 2 Young Adult books I’ve read so far this year.

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/154/35881377/files/2015/01/img_6477.png

I liked both, but Cracked was my favorite. I REALLY liked it! 5 of 5 stars. Just a warning- it definitely has some spicy language.

One of my goals that I really want to stick with this year is to walk at least 1 mile everyday. In the past I’ve tried to run everyday- but that didn’t work. πŸ™‚

By just walking I think I “might” be able to stick with it because I have a treadmill and I can read while I walk. BONUS!

We had a teacher workday today so I was back on a regular schedule. And an early schedule. And I DO mean early. Normally I roll (or jump frantically) out of bed during the week at about 6:20-6:30.

But since I’m going to attempt to walk my mile in the mornings before school AND read my bible I had to get up at 5:15!!!!

But I did it! I may or may not have looked like this turtle….

So this is what I got done be ogre arriving at school at 8:20:
Walked 1 mile, read 3 chapters in my bible and my devotional, wrote in my faith journal, made cornbread and white chicken chili to take to school, showered and dressed, and made my bed.

3 hours of stuff!

And then when I got home after school I RAN MY FIRST MILE FOR 2015!! Outside!!! 12:35. Woohoo!!!

/home/wpcom/public_html/wp-content/blogs.dir/154/35881377/files/2015/01/img_6476.jpg

And now the question I want to ask is:

IS IT TIME TO GO TO BED YET????? πŸ™‚

July Miles & #500in2014

I was a running slacker.

But not this past month!!!

78.3 miles for July!!!!

My total so far this year is 199.2.

I’m still way behind my goal of 500 miles, but I’m way ahead of where I was! πŸ™‚

Here are 2 things I did to change my running:

1. Made it a priority again. (Duh)
2. I walk the 1st half mile EVERYTIME!

Walking the 1st .5 makes it easier to keep going since it gets me warmed up. It has proven to be magical for my running further!!

I sure hope I can keep it up in August! Especially since I start back to school on Monday!

How is your running going?

Running #500in2014

Well, it’s the halfway mark for 2014. Time to reassess my running goals for the year.

My goal was to run/walk 500 miles this year. I’m at 120. Gah!!!! Um, I think I’m a little behind.

BUT- last year I only ran 150 miles for the WHOLE YEAR! So I’m still ahead of that!

If I’ve calculated correctly, then in order to meet my goal I will need to run/walk about 63-64 miles each month for the next 6 months. Which equals about 16-17 miles each week.

Can I do this? You bet your bottom dollar I can.

Do I want to do this? Absolutely.

Will I do this? That is the question.

I need some motivation so please feel free to sprinkle some inspirational comments around!

RUNNING

2014 is going to be an awesome year for running!

If anybody needs a spreadsheet to track your running/walking miles-HERE YOU GO! It’s sort of cute if I do say so myself! πŸ™‚

READING

Don’t think I’m going to meet my Goodreads Reading Challenge for this year. Goal was 200, and I’m on book# 175. Oh, well. Will shoot for it again in 2014!! πŸ™‚

TEACHING

I can’t wait to tell my 6th graders next week that we will start blogging in mid January!!!!!!!!! I’ve already set up a blog for us at Kidblog. We will take about 1 1/2 weeks to learn all about blogging before we dive in.Β

And there you go. A short summary of my current thoughts on what makes me who I am- I RUN READ TEACH. πŸ™‚

500 in 2014

2 years ago I made a resolution/vow/goal to TRY and run a 5k. My husband laughed. Said I could never do it. I showed him.

I used the FABULOUS Couch25k program and ended up running 440 miles that year. (2012).

I went from 163 pounds to 126. In 4 months.

THEN I stayed at around 128-132 lbs for a looooong time.

Enter 2013. Yes, I DID run a half-marathon at Disney World. My husband was very proud of me. I was proud of me.

But then I let life AND laziness get in my way. I slacked off of my running.

In 2013 (even with my half marathon) I’ve only run 145 miles. FOR. THE. YEAR.

OMG.

So, with that being said, 2014 is just around the corner.

And I’m gonna get my run back on. I pledge to run 500 miles in 2014. Yep. Gonna do it. πŸ™‚

A great group of tweeps on twitter have started the #500in2014 challenge on nike +.

I’m in.

And guess what? My husband didn’t laugh this time. Because he knows I can do it. But he DID say I couldn’t do it. Even though he knows I can do it. I think he’s trying for a little reverse psychology. Best motivation ever. It was the last time. πŸ™‚

I’m taking this 144 lb slacking runner girl and turning her into a skinnier (haha-you thought I was going to say 126 lb girl) running girl.

Just call me the Road Runner. πŸ™‚

Running Streak Continues

It’s still alive. 5 consecutive days of running. πŸ™‚

It was just a mile-11:36, but it counts. Then I ran .3 more waiting on my husband to pick me up!

A far cry from my days of knocking out 3-4 miles all the time! And it’s hard to believe I ran 9 miles without stopping one time and even ran (with walking) a half marathon in February.

I. Miss. Those. Days.

It’s amazing how much ground you lose when you stop running consistently.

Maybe this “run like zombies are chasing you” challenge that I joined on Facebook was just the thing I needed to get me back on track. Ha- track, get it? Lol!

And so this concludes my 5th day of running and my 35th day of blogging.

Night y’all!

Running, reading, and teaching

Short post tonight.

Running: Trying to do a “Running with zombies” October running challenge. Run everyday for 31 days even if it’s just 1/2 mile. So far 2/2!! Yippee!

Reading: Trying to expand my “genres” since I’m asking the same of my 6th graders. Fantasy is one of my least favorite genres so…. Started James and the Giant Peach last night. Like it so far! Yay!

Teaching: Trying to keep my head above water as I implement so many NEW things this year. Introduced my kids to “close” reading today with a short passage. Had a reluctant reader LOVE it. The discussing, analyzing, predicting, questioning, annotating. Hooray!

Those are the positive things since I know you don’t want to hear about the negative things. Heck, I don’t want to write about the negative because then I’ll start feeling negative! πŸ™‚

HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!

Peanut, my awesome dog, says good night!

Knocking out the miles

I FINALLY knocked out some higher mileage today. Kara and I ran 4.01 miles Β in 47:27 today. Slow and steady. πŸ™‚

Miles 1 and 4 hurt. Mile 1 ALWAYS hurts! ALWAYS! Miles 2 and 3 felt good.

Flat ground is my friend. Downhill is my best friend.

We only encountered 3 dogs on our run. They were mostly ankle biters. Which could still do some damage, but they weren’t huge like bears or anything.

I’m hoping that this 10k that I signed up for this Saturday is going to be kind to me and only give me flat ground and downhills. I mean I know I can stop and walk if I want to, but I really want to run the entire race. And I know I’m “supposed” to take off the day before a race, but let’s face it people-obviously I’m not in it to win or anything. Not with my times. πŸ™‚

So I’m still streaking minus one day! πŸ™‚
