Running Confession

Ran 3 miles after school with my running buddy OUTSIDE. Been running on the treadmill lately so it felt good to run outside. I just wish there were some trails near our school. It gets a little boring running around town. πŸ™‚

I have a running confession to make. I don’t like training for this half marathon. I mean not that I’m really training for it like I should be, but if I was…. See that’s the problem. I LOVE to run, but I love to run when I want to run and how long I want to run.

I was supposed to start training for the Princess Half Marathon that is at the end of February back in November. Ahem. Just now starting the training. πŸ™‚

So lets say I am on a crash course. I will be seeking out EVERY Disney character I can during the race to take a picture with, you know for the memories, or ummmm the REST BREAKS!! πŸ™‚

So if you are the praying kind, and if you like me just a teensy bit, please PRAY for me! πŸ™‚ That I will finish this race without getting picked up by the street sweeper!!!

Sidenote- this is the kind of day I had today at school.

5th grade:

One student who is 13 told me he was 14. Told another teacher he was 13. He doesn’t know how old he is.

One student didn’t know the difference between a heart and a star while looking at a star.

One student forgot how to spell I. The capital letter I.

Only one of these students has an IEP. Really.

I have to say I handled ALL 3 situations well thank you very much. πŸ™‚

Teaching kids is NEVER boring!

Do you have a running confession?

How was your day?

    • Tasha,

I hope I love the race because the pressure of knowing I’m supposed to be training and the guilt of knowing I’m not even close to training like I’m supposed to be might just send me into therapy!! πŸ™‚

  1. I love to run and usually I run 20-30 miles a week. In September I started “training” for a half marathon and hated every minute of it! It turned out to be very boring and I could not hit my set paces. I ended up getting sick and threw in the towel. Sad to say I decided not to run in the half marathon. I regret it though and want to give it another try this year. Good luck and don’t give up!

    • Thanks, Ali!!

I’ve always been a procrastinator so I wonder if that has a lot to do with how I’m feeling. πŸ™‚ Worse case scenario is that I’ll end up running/walking my half. πŸ™‚

  2. Since you have some running experience, do you think running on the treadmill is harder or outside is harder? I was doing so well outside and then when I switched to the treadmill, I am running out of breath faster and struggling with the smallest distances.

    • To me the treadmill is a different kind of hard. Outside you have to propel yourself forward which in my opinion takes more strength. However, on the treadmill you have to keep up with the belt (hopefully) :). Plus my house is comfortably warm since I’m cold natured so I sweat easier and quicker. They have their pros and cons. I think it’s easier to slow down outside to a comfortable pace not even realizing you’re doing it sometimes.

And listen to how weird this sounds. To me 1 mile on the treadmill goes by super fast, but the 1st mile outside KILLS me. But, the longer I run outside it seems to go quicker than if I run same distance on TM. Lol!

      • I was hoping you would say something like this. There are definitely pros and cons but I am not finding the treadmill easier like most articles say that it is and I started thinking I was completely unfit! I do think that I unconsciously adjust my speed outside and run farther that way. On the treadmill I am trying to keep up with the belt at such a steady pace that I can’t run as far.

      • I think my Garmin Forerunner 10 will keep up with running pace ( haven’t looked to see how to do that yet) , but I thought about that when I was running my long run today. Would I really adjust my speed? πŸ™‚ Maybe on a shorter run than the one I did today. πŸ™‚
