Celebration of National Running Day

Could I please have everyone’s attention? As a promoter of National Running Day 2012 I am sorry to say that I did NOT run today. GASP! I feel so bad.

I worked at a convenience store to help someone out from 8-5:30 and then went out to eat with daughter, bestie, and bestie’s friend. It was our weekly tradition. I mean hey-people are counting on me. πŸ™‚

And after all that it was dark. And you know by now that darkness + running = BAD LUCK FOR ME! I was not ready to have another community meeting with a copperhead! πŸ™‚

So instead, I did what any girl would do.

Check out the death grip. I didn’t want any snakes trying to take away my ice cream cone. πŸ™‚

So I was a total running slacker today. Of all days. But tomorrow-I will run. Of course, that’s after my teaching workshop that I will be at all day in Anniston. πŸ™‚

But, I.will.run.

How did you celebrate National Running Day?

National Running Day 2012

Lace up those running shoes and get to running. Tomorrow, Wednesday, June 6th is National Running Day. Run for the love of it! πŸ™‚

http://www.runningday.org/

I’m trying to figure out when I’m going to fit in a run tomorrow. I’m working at a convenience store(gotta love a part-time job during the summer!) from 8-5 and meeting my best friend at 5:30 to eat dinner. Hmmmm…..

Here are my 2 dilemmas:

1. I’m NOT a morning person. I already have to get up at 6:45 am to get ready and drive to the store. HOW on earth can I get up any earlier??????

2. I’m NOT running near dark EVER again!!!!! See my facebook post to find out why!Β http://www.facebook.com/shannon.d.clark.5Β It involved a COPPERHEADSNAKEITHOUGHTIWASGOINGTOTRULYHAVEAHEARTATTACK.

What to do? What to do?

Anybody have any suggestions???? πŸ™‚

While you are figuring out how to help me with this crisis I want to show you how hot it was today while I was running my 5 miles in 1 hour and 26 seconds-OMG!

Yeah, pretty hot! πŸ™‚

But at least I didn’t see any snakes this time-UNLIKE last night’s run!! It took 12 hours to find my resting heart rate after that run! πŸ™‚

We had our 1st track meeting tonight-36 kids have signed up so far! You might not think that’s a big deal, but let me tell you-we only have about 180 kids 7th-12th grade so what percentage is that??? I don’t do math so you’ll have to figure it out. πŸ™‚

I’m looking forward to a GREAT year with our track & cross country team. Very excited!

For some more random news check out the picture of my 18 year old in her very stylish Winn-Dixie outfit!!! Yes, she got a job! So this summer she’s working at Winn-Dixie and a marina and will start classes in the fall at a junior college near our home!!!!

By the way, does anyone need any onions? Look.at.that.bag.

OMG-look how short her feet look!!! I can’t wait to show her this! She’s walking on baby feet. LOL!

Have you ever seen a snake while running?

If you teach, do you coach a sport?

World Run Day

I got my World Run Day shirt in!!! Woohoo!!!

Can’t wait to wear it and run this virtual run on November 11, 2012! Here’s the link if you want to sign up!

I think I might be getting addicted to virtual runs!

On a side note, one of our dogs had her puppies a few days ago-3 of them! This is her 1st litter. Here they are looking like cute little white rats!

I’ll post progress pictures because I KNOW you are in love! πŸ™‚

Have you ever run a virtual race?

Do you have animals?

Runner’s High

Is it a myth? Can it be achieved? Check out this article on the research behind a runner’s high:

http://caloriecount.about.com/blog/partners/truth-runners-high-b572000?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletter_20120603&utm_term=title1

I can honestly say that there have been a few times when running that I felt like I could go on and on and on……that was my runner’s high. I can also honestly say that it has NEVER happened in the 1st mile or even the 2nd! πŸ™‚

The 1st mile is always the hardest for me. My knees are working out the kinks. My lungs are wheezing. In general, my entire body is hurling some severe cuss words at me. πŸ™‚ I usually just ignore them and keep trucking.

The most evident runner’s high that I ever felt was the time when I ran 6.5 miles. Seriously, the only reason I stopped was because I was supposed to be helping my husband Β in the yard and felt obligated to stop. I really think I could have kept going-not sure how long I would have held out, but it would be interesting to try that again. Summer bucket list?

Have you ever experienced a runner’s high?

It’s Monday-What are you reading?

Here we are with another chance to share wonderful books with each other thanks to Jen and Kellee over atΒ Teach Mentor TextsΒ and Sheila over atΒ Book JourneyΒ who both sponsor this great meme each week for young adult/children and adult respectively!

I have read several books the past several days because our last day of school was WEDNESDAY! Oh, I’m sorry-I didn’t mean to shout that and hurt your ears! πŸ™‚

Read this past week:

Babymouse Dragonslayer by the ever so wonderful Holms siblings-Matt and Jenni Holms

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE her!

Trapped by Michael Northrop

I really got into Trapped-it was written in an easy style with touches of humor even though the story was serious.

The Secret Garden by Frances BurnettThis classic delighted me, and I can’t believe I have never read it until now!

I am currently reading Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. I just started it and am already hurting for Melinda in a bad way. High school is so cruel, and I know I’m not even to the truly horrific part. Let’s just say it has captured my attention!

Next on my list:

And She Was by Alison Gaylin-I started it, put it down, and read these others. I was enjoying it-don’t know why I put it down. πŸ™‚

Not sure what after that. Happy Reading!

Monday Made It Linky Party

Tara over at 4th Grade FrolicsΒ is hosting a linky party throughout the summer that is the bomb!! It will be each Monday, and all you have to do is make something for your classroom, take a picture of it, write a post about it, and link up to her Made It Monday post. Of course, that being said (“all” you have to do…) I didn’t make anything crafty this time-just a rough draft of a new lesson plan template for next year since I will be teaching 5th and 6th grade history for the first time ever. This template is sort of like a planning sheet-maybe not the one I will turn in to administration-just one to figure out what I want to do each week.

I want to make history come alive for the students instead of just read the lesson and memorize, so I have made a lesson plan template that covers that. πŸ™‚

Here’s my “rough draft” template:

5th6thlessonplan

Well, that’s my attempt at a screenshot. Why is technology so hard to learn? πŸ™‚

So there you have it-my creation. πŸ™‚ Next week I’ll do something crafty!

Babymouse AGAIN!

I have read another Babymouse book by Jenn and Matt Holm-Babymouse Dragonslayer.

I seriously need to get into some kind of 12 step program for this addiction! πŸ™‚

I am working my way through all of the Babymouse books and don’t know what I’m going to do when I have read them all. I guess I’ll bribe Jenn and Matt Holm with something to get them to write some more. Any ideas???

This graphic novel series is (I think) for a 3rd or 4th grade level. HOWEVER, my 6th graders ate them up! Well, they didn’t really “eat” them up because then I would have been a mad teacher. πŸ™‚

I had already purchased 4 of the books when 2 of my girls came in on a Monday and presented me with 6 more on a “borrowing” system. I literally teared up!!

So I finished Dragonslayer today. I was reading it on the way to Talladega with my husband to buy a pesticide tractor sprayer. I wasn’t the one driving. πŸ™‚ He commented on the fact that I kept turning the book upside down. It was a smart alec comment. πŸ™‚ I very sweetly πŸ™‚ explained to him that I was having to read what the bat was saying. Upside down.

I loved this one as much as the rest of them. There is one thing though. It had A LOT of math language in it, and it was higher level math language so I’m not sure how much a 3rd or 4th grader would “get it”. But I got it and that’s all that matters!

5 of 5 stars

Babymouse is my hero!

Running Streak Challenge

Runner’s World has challenged all who are interested to a running streak challenge. You must run at least 1 mile each day. Then you tweet about it using the hashtag-#RWRunStreak. The challenge runs (HA) from Memorial Day to the 4th of July. I’m making up my own rules now. If you didn’t start on Memorial Day it doesn’t matter-I mean you didn’t even know about it! Start now and see if you can complete the “Running Streak”!!

Yesterday I ran 1 mile. WOW! 11:27. It was a VERY easy mile-I guess because I knew that I was “only” going to run a mile. πŸ™‚

Here’s some motivation for you!

I had painted 2 1/2 walls of my classroom so I was feeling pretty lazy by 7pm. πŸ™‚ (Yes, I’m a teacher freak who spends the 1st day of summer vacation painting a classroom for next year!) But guess what? My best friend-the other teacher freak-was helping me so at lease when I get committed to the crazy house I will have a roommate! πŸ™‚

Are you up for the running streak????
